Prevent Your Elder from Falling
A simple fall can be
catastrophic to an elder—often leading to a broken hip or other injuries.
Here are a few things you can make sure your elder does to reduce the risk of
falling. Make sure your elder: ¨ Wears thin rubber-soled shoes with shallow treads. ¨ Picks up their feet when walking—walk heel-toe ¨ Uses handrails ¨ Avoids rushing—takes their time, focuses on the
task at hand ¨ Removes all slipping/tripping hazards ¨ Installs grab bars around the tub or shower ¨ Uses non-skid strips or tub mats ¨ Takes medications as they are prescribed ¨ Makes sure there is ONE pharmacist who knows about ALL the medications they are taking. (From S.I.P.P)
